Book Nook Shuffle

A little library has become delightfully mixed up. Put every book home, one small turn at a time.

What you do

Choose a two-by-two group of books and turn it left or right. All four books move together, so fixing one shelf can disturb another. Sort Fern books onto the top shelf, Sun books into the middle, and Berry books onto the bottom. Three puzzles have verified minimum-turn targets of 3, 5, and 7, with unlimited thinking time and free undo.

  • A four-book rotation changes two shelves at once.
  • Three puzzles per trio, with 24 verified layouts in the bank.
  • Free undo and same-layout retries.
  • Written names and distinct leaf, sun, and berry symbols.

How to play

  1. Choose a block using the six miniature shelf maps. The outline marks its four books.
  2. Turn left or Turn right moves all four books one place around the square.
  3. Sort Fern books on top, Sun in the middle, and Berry on the bottom. Finished shelves do not lock.
  4. Meet the 3, 5, or 7 turn target for 100 points and 3 ribbons. Each extra turn costs 5 points, down to 10. Up to four extra turns earns 2 ribbons; more earns 1.
  5. Finish three puzzles. Undo removes a turn; reset retries the same layout. There is no turn limit.

Controls

  • Mouse or touch: choose a block, then Turn left or Turn right.
  • Keyboard: Tab through buttons and activate with Enter or Space.
  • Use the toolbar for pause, sound, restart, and fullscreen.

Tips worth knowing

  • Trace all four books before turning, not just the book you want to move.
  • Try the reverse direction when a turn makes the shelves worse. Undo is free.
  • A completed shelf can move again. Sometimes a temporary mismatch helps solve the whole bookcase.
  • Retry a familiar layout to reduce turns; only the latest result counts.

Accessibility

  • Large labeled buttons work with touch, mouse, and keyboard.
  • Book names and symbols identify shelf types without relying on color.
  • Reduced motion removes the brief selection effect. Sounds are optional.

Questions

Can I run out of turns?

No. The target is the minimum possible, not a move limit. You can keep trying and undo freely.

Does Book Nook Shuffle save my progress?

No. Keep the tab open to continue the current trio. Closing or reloading starts over; there is no saved high score.

Are the puzzles always solvable?

Yes. All 24 fixed layouts have been checked against the actual rotation rules, including their minimum-turn targets. New trio changes all three layouts using eight choices per difficulty.
